It was wonderful experience. we had some bad weather, but it gave me the opportunity to spend more time with nomad family and it was a very enriching time. Our guide Tuvshee was joyful and friendly and most importantly a very good cook (in extreme conditions) during tent camping. We want to come back and we will buy a ger to put in our garden!

Day 3. Long day visiting to Buriat Ethnic Museum & Mongol Daguur (Dauria) National Park & Exploring Gazelle herds and 3 countries’ border.

Having nice breakfast with home-made buriatian toasts and nice taste sour crème from milk is a shiny part of my travel memory. This morning we visited to very nice museum and we had lots of information about Buriat ethnic group. Buriats consider that their descendants are Khoridoi general and Swan lady from sky. Therefore, we could see the monument of Swan mother in small garden of this village.

Then we headed to Chukh lake area and Dauria national park. Beautiful Chukh lake and it’s surrounding bulrushes are the comfortable home and stopover for migrating birds to/from Siberia and tropical countries. Here in summer hottest days more than 100 species of birds are nesting, breeding and homing. The most endangered species of birds are 5 species of cranes: white naped crane, black crane, white crane and blue cranes. When I was walking along the lakeshore and between bulrushes, I tried to  imagine the summer view of this lake with  flying and head-nodding birds. At the lake we met an old lady called Urjinbadam and she and her husband were trying to protect this lake and birds in last 10 years.

Mongol Dauria national park area is UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve area and Ramsar Site- International wetlands Importance Site. It includes several small pure water lakes and these lakes are stopover and home for hundreds of birds, as well as low rolling hills and mountains, which are keeping the endangered species of wild mountain sheep and wild goats herds. It has rich habitat of birds, gazelles, sheep, goats and as well as other wildlife: lynxes, foxes, wolves and so on..

We arrived later afternoon to Ereentsav village and today we did not have a free time to have lunch, our next destination was border point of 3 countries: Mongolia, Russia and China. On the way we have discovered and played around with big herds of thousands of gazelle. It was really nice to see that whole big valley is full of running gazelles and it looked like big steppe was moving and shaking. We  run out off our van and everybody is busy with taking pictures. German speaking male manager sent the drone to shoot the big herd of thousands gazelles. Unfortunately, the drone battery was very low and it fell somewhere by the edge of the big herd.

When we arrived at the border, it was getting dark and the sun was setting down. We were at the most eastern point of Mongolia as looking at 3 sides of border column with 3 different scripts. 100 years ago our borders were not here. Mongolian border was 200 km north far deep into Russian present territory and 150 km east far deep into Chinese present territory. Present time all these big region with Mongolian names are registered under countries of Russia and China. Mongolian names of mountains and rivers are brainstorming today what the world politic made to Mongolia. Many buriatian and bargujin etnic groups are living in China and Russia now.

We went back to border check point and military border station. Here we had dinner and asked for the permission to stay overnight in this comfy warm building. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to stay there and we had to move back to the village. Our driver was tired and he almost missed one of us at the border station. He could shout loudly on leaving time, also we recognized that one seat is empty, soon we stopped and picked up him. Then we had cross eyed talking about the miss of a person and it turned into a movie scenario. The scenario started like this: Our driver missed 6 managers in east part of Mongolia. Those managers lived as wild tribe with many adventures for 20 years and later our driver came back to this area with tourists and he and his tourists are welcomed to our tent. Of course, managers will punish the driver, who made them to live as wild. In this scenario everybody needed to change their names as sounding ancient style names. Since that time we call each other with our new names with ancient style. During the scenario composition everybody was keeping laughs continiuesly. It was really great fun talk and nice fantasy refreshment in my travel memory.

Finally we arrived back to Ereentsav village. Everybody is exhausted because of driving and exploring after 6 a.m until 10p.m. Tonight we – 19 people all together stayed in a pretty big room at the secondary school dormitory. I had a great chance to seize the soft bed near the window, so I had nice fresh air from outside and I enjoyed and rested with my deep sleep, nothing any dreams and nothing any noise at my ears.

Day 4.  Khukh lake depression and Leader’s family visit and back to civilization

Today we continued our clockwise tour to Khukh – Blue lake depression. This is my 4th visit to this beautiful small salt lake. This area is the lowest point of Mongolia and it is 552 meters above sea level. When we arrived it’s water completely frozen and we were enjoying with picturing on ice of the lake. The sun was shining brightly, the sunlight was reflecting and sparkling brilliantly on ice of the lake. I love the summer view of this lake and as well as the winter view of it. Maybe, after finishing my travel job and when I will be retired, I might come here to stay for summer season.

We drove to Choibalsan village of Dornod province, which is the birthplace of our travel leader Bolorkhuu. His parents are still living here, so we have visited to his house and had lunch there. His parents served us with nice taste of soup. The soup taste brainstormed me my mother’s soup for special holiday and celebration in socialist time. The soup taste touched deep of my heart and made me cry as missing my mom.

Then we drove to Choibalsan big town, where Dornod Tourism Union people are waiting for us. We had official talk about tourism development in eastern part of Mongolia and travel agencies’ roles and contribution into the successful tourism in this region.

Tonight we stayed in local hotels and we had great rest and thoughts about this region and buriat ethnic group.
